The Cryptoterrestrials: Ideas Review

Just finished reading the book The Cryptoterrestrials, by the late Mac Tonnies. I had been inspired by his blog before, and I just had to see if his first (and, sadly, last) book lived up to his sharp intellect and wild ideas.
Well, I was not disappointed. Not at all. It was refreshing to find such an indipendent spirit, the likes of which the Paranormal world has not seen since John Keel.
Don’t get the wrong idea: the book is far from perfect. It is very small (some 100 pages), and most of the chapters go round and round the very same themes and ideas. The language is a bit too literary, most of the time removing power from the ideas expressed by overstating them through convoluted sentences.
But the ideas.. Oh yes, that’s where the gold is at. In a previous post I had described my preoccupation with what could be hiding in plain view. That’s where Tonnies places his Cryptoterrestrials most of the time. In UFOs, underground, in hiding, but also in plain view.
The main idea proposed in the book is that we are being played, our preconceptions used against us in a strange play that has lasted for aeons, and whose purpose is unfathomable. The beings responsible use us as a means to an end, one that has never been revealed.
There is little proof in the whole book. Just well-constructed, probing, ultimately disturbing thought. Thought on facts, research, our ideas and our faults as the collective entity we are.
A word of caution : This is not a book for believers. Quite the opposite.
It’s ideas in their purest form, not chewed-over food.

I will end this post here, as I consider this topic an ongoing research, but I will be coming back to the book ever so often.
I can think of no better epilogue than the last lines of the book:

I’m willing to embrace transcendence or endure extinction. I must perpetually concede either possibility, no matter how dramatically different, regardless of how exciting or dismal. I walk a fine existential edge, fearing and cherishing, enlivened by a vertiginous sense of astonishment and horror.

You and me both brother.. You and me both.

Size does matter (in UFOs, that is)

I came across this study by Martin S. Kottmeyer showing the differences in UFO sizes through time. As you can see on the chart, UFO’s used to be smaller in the past. Nowadays they are getting significantly bigger..

WTF? you might say.
Ed Stewart suggests that UFo coverage in News and movis directly influences UFO reports (so the increase in size> Close Encounters of the Third Kind). Which more or less means that most reports are biased, half-fabricated or outright bullshit.

Then there could be another explanation.

The book I am reading right now deals exactly with the hypothesis that UFOs are not crafts from Outer Space (and never where), but rather an elaborate parlor trick, designed to..

I’ll get to that soon. I hope.

Time Traveler Caught on Camera?

See anything strange?
In this photo which went online on a Virtual Museum in Canada, some one noticed the strange man dubbed “the Hipster Time Traveler”
Let’s take a closer look

Modern-looking sunglasses, a shirt print and what appears to be a compact camera.

Forums went on a rage, and then Forgetomori did a little research on which of those items could be bought back in the forties.

It turns out you could find all those items back then.

The verdict? Inconclusive. The man has a distinctively modern aura to him, and looks totally out of place back in the 40’s. He would also fit quite nicely in any modern urban setting. I have to reserve judgment on this one, but we have to keep an eye on old photos. It seems the past (?)  may have some surprises left for us…

They Live Among Us by 20% (at least)

1 in 5 believe aliens exist and live among us disguised as humans

The Reuters Ipsos poll of 23,000 adults in 22 countries showed that more than 40 percent of people from India and China believe that aliens walk among us disguised as humans.

Most of those believers are under the age of 35, and across all income classes, the survey showed. Of those who do not believe, most are women.

Now this is interesting. This subject has got me thinking. More soon.

Seeing With New Eyes

This article by William Henry was a great reading and thinking experience. It is like a follow-up to a previous post about the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, as well as to most of the stuff in here.. It is not perfect, but it is fun to read and most of his correlations deserve attention.

Let’s see some highlights.

The first passage is from the famed Cosmic Alignment on Dec 21 2012.

..the Mayans say from out of this tree/star alignment comes a serpent rope with an enlightened being named Nine Winds or Quetzalcoatl riding upon it and a blessed substance’ or ‘sap’ the Mayans called itz (literally ‘the blessed substance’) apparently spewing from it.
Usually, when one thinks of ‘sap’ they’re thinking of a watery liquid nutrient that circulates through the conducting tissues of a plant or tree (that or a person who acts like an idiot). However, when I Go(ogle)d, excuse me, Googled, ‘cosmic sap’ I found that ‘sap’ is also an acronym for ‘sub atomic particle’ (or sap).

Now compare the ATLAS Detector in CERN with the source of emanation from the Mayan Depiction. Cool, huh?

Another really cool comparison is that of the ATLAS with the Dharma Initialive logo from Lost. (Yup, I’m a Lost freak, get over it)
 
He goes on to discuss Jesus, the creation, Osiris, Shiva, all with a no-bullshit, frank and mostly funny demeanor. A ton of information is in there, and it is well worth your time.

The whole thing was enlightening, but left me with some burning questions, and they cannot be answered by Googling:

Who is behind CERN? I don’t mean the States providing funding.
Who chose the location? Does it bear some significance? Are any of the founders members of secret societies of any sort?
Who convinced cheap-ass governments with the combined intellectual capacity of an ashtray to give billions to something non-profit? They still give tons of money. If that is not indicative of something fishy, then I am officially weird.

All I could find out was that it started back in 1954.
And that it is responsible for the development of the World Wide Web and hypertext. No small thing there. It propelled information into the future. Us too. Can someone have planned this? The Illuminati, the Sufis, the 72?
Are they at it again?

We have come a long way since John Keel questioned everything science had to say. A long way indeed.
Are those scientists in CERN the instruments of some driving force determined to push mankind?
Push. Where, I wonder.. Forward or off the cliff?
Come to think of it, off the cliff is not such a bad idea.
They say that way, you can learn how to fly.

The Fourth Kind of Hoax

Saw the movie The Fourth Kind a couple of days ago, and I just had to write something about it.
To get it out of the way, yes I liked it. Very much. It's been a while since I saw something as creepy and disturbing as this.
If you liked The Mothman Prophecies, chances are you are going to like this one as well.
The film is styled in a documentary kind of way, and starts by pronouncing everything in it to be true, but a quick search proved that it was all a viral marketing plan by Universal, ending in criticism and a fine of $20.000...
The marketing campaign was backed by fake news sites among others, which probably played a big part in the negative criticism and legal action that ensued.
Here's a breakdown of the investigation by Kyle Hopkins, done even before the film was released.
 So why even bother? Well, it is this documetary-style, slow-moving directorial pace that gives the film it's ominous atmosphere, as well as the abduction elements, that are not as far-fetched as the uninitiated might think. The director clearly has done his research or is a full-fledged UFO freak. Good stuff.


I am afraid I cannot comment on the plot without spoiling it for some, so see it for yourselves. All I can say is that the UFO community out there (the internet) is of a very poor quality, home of the uninformed, confused, messed up or plain screaming crazy... Just take a look at any UFO forum...

It’s ok, they are trying to save you from yourself

In this article in the NY Times, which has been around quite a lot, the implications of the Higgs Boson experiment in the Large Hadron Collider are subject to speculation. Not the experiment itself, but the bad luck it seems to attract. To quote one of the scientists:

“It must be our prediction that all Higgs producing machines shall have bad luck,” Dr. Nielsen said in an e-mail message. In an unpublished essay, Dr. Nielson said of the theory, “Well, one could even almost say that we have a model for God.” It is their guess, he went on, “that He rather hates Higgs particles, and attempts to avoid them.”

Notice how the suspected culprits are “The Universe”, “God”, and other such non-conversational, abstract entities.
Of course the more conspiratorial of bloggers have boldly gone where it is easy to go, suggesting alien and therefore sentient involvement. Not God or Physics, but beings with eyes and a brain. Maybe.
To complicate things further, this letter arrived at Fermilab, back in 2008, which made them ask for help from more experienced codebreakers.

Well, the first part apparently means
“FRANK SHOEMAKER WOULD CALL THIS NOISE”
I don’t know who Frank Shoemaker is, but it intrigued a lot of people.
Is it a hoax? A coincidence? The Universe trying to warn the smartest people on Earth about the dangers of the Higgs particles?
I cannot answer any of that, but it sure is cool . Not just the letter.
The possibility is seriously considered that we are being contacted.
And I mean seriously-no nonsense- top scientists considered.. 
Well, if they make contact at last, I for one will consider the LHC a BIG SUCCESS! Who needs Higgs particles when you have successfully coaxed the aliens out of hiding?
